With the rapid development of the market economy, the elementary commerce features in China have been changed fundamentally. The complexity and diversity of social demands make the decision-makings of enterprises more important. The powerful data management ability and spatial analysis ability make GIS an efficient tool for the commerce decision-making. This paper theoretically discusses the application of GIS in marketing and trade area analysis.When discussing the application of GIS in marketing, this paper firstly analyses the existing problems in the current marketing information processing and puts forward relevant GIS solving methods. The actualization of these methods will change the traditional marketing information flow method and improve the objectivity and timeliness of the marketing information. And then, this paper discusses the application of GIS in the marketing decision-making. It briefly describes the GIS application methods and basic modes in the aspect of objective market selection, sale network planning and so on.In the part of the application of GIS in trade area analysis, this paper mainly discusses how to use GIS to develop a trade area analysis mode to supply efficient tool for the enterprisers in the site selection decision-making. This paper presents the process of mode building by the format of flow-charts, and analyses every part of the mode in details. And at last, the paper also analyses the differences between the proposed mode and the traditional mode.Except these two main contents, this paper also discusses the key technologies and problems in the application of GIS in the commerce. And at the last part of this paper, the future of this research is mentioned.
