Intermediate banking business is established by a commercial bank on the basis of its traditional asset and credit business. Making use of its advantage in organization, reputation, funds, technology, human resources and information a commercial bank can accept clients:1 entrustments and offer them many financial services such as settlement, renting, trust deposit, trust loan, as an agent of collecting or paying, consultation and guarantee. By offering these services the commercial bank can obtain service charges or commissions. So the intermediate banking business becomes one of the most important incomes of a commercial bank and besides asset and credit business, it is also one of the components of the three pillars of business of a modern commercial bank.Starting with the basic concept of intermediary business, this thesis analyses some basic characters of its service range, cost risk, watching and controlling, and technique requirement. Then it expounds the current significance of developing intermediate banking business in respects of expounding living space, getting used to the competition of market, accelerating progress and consummating service function to a state owned commercial bank. Then it analysis the situation and environment of the state owned commercial banks' intermediate business, and summarizes the outstanding problems and their reasons when state owned banks develop their intermediate business, such as business range limited, service level lower, management system not sturdy and specialized staffs lacked. By comparing the development of intermediate business between Chinese and foreign commercial banks, it promulgate the inadequate of intermediate business of Chinese commercial banks in income level, operating scope, business varieties and service means. On this basis, according to the development of the intermediate business to state owned banks, this thesis points our some relevant strategies such like setting up modern conception of financial management, establishing scientific management system, formulating whole development progress, carrying out proper marketing strategies and founding system of risk controlling. At last, this thesis gives relative suggestions on expanding intermediate business practices for the China Construction Bank in recent years, such as strengthening comprehensive management, carrying out comprehensive marketing, defining marketing position and enlarging creative ability.
