Twenty 1920s And 1930s Henan Cotton Industry

The cotton industry began to develop and gradually became one of the most important economic plants Replacing the mulberry during the Qing Dynasty and Ming Dinastyjust after it began to be planted in Henan Province since Song Dynasty and Yuan Dynasty. The scale of cotton planting was enlarged greatly on the basis of development of Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty, in 1920s and 1930s. Meanwhile , The trend of specialized planting began to emerge ,which gradually shaped some cotton planting zones. The quality and quantity of cotton was greatly improved. With the application of rail transportation and the increase of ma(cet demands, the cotton of Henan Province have taken great changes in these aspects of sale's scale , sale's amount and sale styles, which became one member of national and international cotton industry network.. Moreover, the system of cotton trade formed and the market of domestic cotton became more standard.In the 1920s and 1930s , the measures which were taken by the government ,such as cotton seeds' improved, the establishment of cotton cooperation organization and the anti-cotton adulterate institute, offered great help to develop the cotton industry. At the same time the large demands of cotton mills including Henan Province and the whole country , greatly improved the development of cotton planting. However , Japanese cotton mills bought cotton wantonly which made it shortage in cotton market. On the other hand ,the Henan's handwoven cloth also further advance the development of cotton planting.The cotton planting and trade also promoted the emergement and development of other industries for example, cotton ginning ,package and transportation. The cotton trade strengened the economical function of traditional cities. Generally speaking ,farmers got more benefits from cotton planting than others. In some region ,cotton violated other crops' land.To some extend ,Although the cotton industry have development in Henan Province ,it have many limitations compared to other Provinces" in the country, such as slowly developments,lower quantity, unflourishing cotton trade. These limitations are related to the shortage of food supply, heaw cotton taxation and the bad natural conditions.
