Nationalism is a major issue in the intentional relationship studies in the past few years. Up to now, there are few theses reviewing the development trend of nationalism in the process of globalization in a macro way. The thesis, the Contemporary Nationalism and its Development Trend in the process of Globalization, attempts to make a prel iminary discussion about the development trend of nationalism in a new age of globalization on the basis of classifying nationalism and analyzing its features after Cold War and the causes of its flourish. The text covers 4 parts. Part I mainly classifies nationalism in theory. It focuses on the classification analysis in terms of the content of nationalism, the geographic boundary of nationalism and the political orientation of nationalism; Part II analyzes the major features of the contemporary nationalism. Part III analyzes the causes of the flourish of the contemporary nationalism. The last part reviews and foresees the development trend of nationalism in an age of globalization. In the author's opinion, along with the rapid development of globalization in economic. Political and cultural levels in a new century, nationalism will develop in 4 aspects. Firstly, the pol itical nationalism characterized by national separation will fade away, the pattern of the world will be more or less kept stable. Secondly, the economic nationalism stressing economic orientation and rights will be the main stream of the development of nationalism. Thirdly, the cultural nationalism, which devotes to protecting and reviving national cultures, will arise and flourish. The cultural nationalism might take the place of the previous ideological conflicts and become the source of the new civilization conflicts. Lastly, racism will continue to be present in the 21st century and might be spread widely. To end the thesis, the author points out that there are both the trend of rapid development of globalization and that of intensification of nationalism at present time. In the long run, nationalism and globaliaztion will coexist in friction and interaction. The national contradiction may still be the excuse of " New Interventionist!) "for international interference in the new century. As a result, the world people, including Chinese people, should keep alert to it.
