Now China is in the period of social transition. This transition inevitably requires cultivating the peoples with new quality and new spiritual outlook meeting the new time's needs. In this period our education faces with severe challenge in which ideological and moral education is at stake. The predicament and crisis of ideological and moral education have become fact of common concern. This paper chooses Chinese ideological and moral education during this great change period as object of study. It aims at arousing the peoples to pay attention to this problem and tries to do something for the reform and development of Chinese ideological and moral education.This paper consists five parts:(l)The main contents of ideological and moral education. This part mainly discusses the evolving.course of the contents of ideological and moral education and points out its era background and clarifies its contents. (2)The value of ideological and moral education. This part clarifies the main meaning of ideological and moral education's value and its characteristics. Then respectively analyses and discusses the political value, economical value, cultural value> cultivating people's value of ideological and moral education.(3)This part mainly discusses the new tasks of Chinese ideological and moral education in the period of social transition Mastering social reality accurately is the basic premise of comprehending the contents, the form, the method of ideological and moral education. Beginning with the social reality of Chinese social transition this part points out we pay more attention to challenges and opportunities arosen from globalization, knowledge-based economy x socialist market economy, varieties of undeveloped period of socialism. (4)This part superficially analyses the opinions and the basic principles should be formed in the period of Chinese social transition and aims at arousing people's further contemplation.(5)This part mainly discusses several problems which should be concerned in the period of Chinese social transition, that is, to strengthen the research on the object, to strengthen the research on unity and coherence, and to strengthen the research on permeability of Chinese ideological and moral education.
