After China's entry to WTO, our financial field is obliged to open door to the outside world and in China the number of foreign banks is expanding rapidly. As a whole, Chinese banking is facing the unprecedented challenge that comes from their foreign competitors. Meanwhile, Chinese banking industry begins to be open domestically. As a result, stock commercial banks are growing up to be an important part of the banking system and the national economy. Because of the complicated developing environments, the reformation of Chinese state-owned commercial banks has become one of the main contents of the economical reformation. Therefore, it is sure that there will be great changes in the banking market structure, participations and strength. How to understand the banks' structure, conduct and performance, and how to implement the proper policies, is a significant issue of the day.Besides the preface, the thesis includes five chapters. As a theoretical basis, Chapter 1 expounds the development history of industry organization theory and the SCP theory of Harvard school.Chapter 2 puts emphasis on the market structure of Chinese banking. According to the present situation, such quotas as concentration, scale, entry obstacle, are used for analysis and contrast.Chapter 3 is also an important part. It makes a deep analysis on the banks' conduct, especially that of state-owned banks.Banks' performance is the main content of Chapter 4. In this part we research some quotas of performance, make some compares between the performances of different countries, and then analyze the reasons on this problem.Based on the former four chapters, Chapter 5 states the organization system and the policies of the government's control. There are some important topics discussed here such as the entry policy, the flexibility of interest rate, and the property right reformation of state-owned banks.
