As China entered into the World Trade Organization, China speeds up her opening up to the outside, and international retailing magnates also speed up their anabasis into china. As a result, the competition of China retailing industry is more furious than ever, and the home retailing firms are facing grim stress and challenges. Combining with the environment that Chinese retailing firms are facing at home and abroad and Walmart's operation practice, this paper will analyze the opportunities and challenges confronted by Chinese retailing firms and try to provide Chinese retailing firms with some useful suggestions and solutions.Except the preface, this paper is divided into five parts. In the first part, aiming at China's WTO entry, this paper will analyze the strength and weakness of China retailing firms, and conduct a strategic consideration for the development of Chinese retailing firms. The second part will thoroughly analyze the operation philosophy of Walmart, the three talismans for Walmart to succeed and the forever leading thought and strategy of Walmart. The third part will analyze the constraint factors, the economics of scale, the choice of business modal,the strategy pattern of chain operation, and the entry model of property management for China retailing firms, as a result we make a conclusion that Chinese retailing firms should take a path of chain operation and scale development. The fourth part of this paper will point out that Chinese retailing firms should correct their attitudes, head on the challenges to be facing.
