Welfare state, as an institutional arrangement as well as a practical policy, witnessed the most brilliant achievement of social democracy , a politic conviction as well as a value favoritism in 20th century. This proposition provides us with a new perspective to explore both social democracy and welfare state. As reformatory theory and practice to the capitalism, social democracy and welfare state have been walking along closely during the postwar time. In my dissertation, I am committed to explore the evolution of the internal relationship between social democracy and welfare state, their interactive mode and mechanism, their future as well.Three sections as follows constitute my paper: preface, text and conclusion. The first section -preface briefly deals with the significance of the topic. The second section-text is divided into three chapters: The beginning chapter reviews the origins and implications of welfare state and explains why social democracy selected welfare state system as their practical policy after they walked on the route of reformism. The following chapter evaluates the achievements of social democratic parties in carrying out welfare state system, illustrating its affection on the theoretic evolution of the social democracy based on the case of Frankfurt Manifesto and Gooteseburg Programme, then analyzing the functions of "Politic of Consensus" in carrying out welfare state system. Then the third chapter analyzes the dilemma of social democracy and welfare state caused by technology innovation and economical globalization, which urged the social democracy to "the third way" and the welfare state reform to "social investment state". While social democratic parties pursue a series of policies catering for large capital in reforming welfare states, it turns out to be another dire straits. The last section of my paper is the concluding comment that summarizes the internal relations and the evolutionary orbit between social democracy and welfare state before forecasting the future of them.
