After the post-cold war era, because of the United States' intention to maintain his leadership in the world, the U.S. Further adjust the foreign policy to Taiwan. The U.S. is inclined to Taiwan in the cross-strait relations gradually, and upgrade U.S.-Taiwan relations obviously. By adopting strategic ambiguity the U.S. will pursue a kind of flexible policy. After Bush came to power, he is making the alterations to the policy toward Taiwan from strategic ambiguity to strategic clarity, which brings about the emptiness of One-China policy. Among various factors that influence the cross-strait relations, the U.S. is of particular importance. Adjustments to the policy lead to different responses between the Mainland and Taiwan, which influence the cross-strait relations tremendously.This thesis systematically studies adjustment features of the American policy to Taiwan at present from the unique view of point " maintain the status quo", meanwhile, intends to analyze the intern factors which influence U.S.' policy toward Taiwan issue, and next to predict reasonably the developing current of the tomorrow policy.Another emphasis of my paper is to reveal by analyzing the difference influence on Taiwan taken by the U.S., and the U.S. cross-strait policy will have turn-backs and fluctuations. At last, the paper give suggestions and thoughts how we bring every positive factors into play to achieve China's unification.
