After the Cold War, the international situation, cross-strait relations and Taiwan's political situation on the island have taken place in the historic changes. The United States wants to maintain its hegemony in the current status of the world economy; it will have special emphasis on Asia-Pacific region. With the end of the Cold War, Sino-US joint strategy against the Soviet Union no longer exists. The United States in the pursuit of national interests of the greatest goals and strategic interests have been driven by a series of Taiwan policy adjustments.The adjustment of U.S. policy toward Taiwan as follows:in the cross-strait relations gradually tilted to Taiwan, the United States and Taiwan to enhance the relationship between the trend is clear, take the ambiguous policy in order to maintain the flexibility of the policy; the Bush administration took office, the Taiwan by strategic ambiguity strategy is to strategic clarity, the one-China policy a hollowing out of the tendency. So that cross-strait relations have been far-reaching impact, great changes have taken place, and the Taiwan issue has become the main reason for long. To this end, U.S. policy toward Taiwan, through the evolution of complexity, summed up U.S. policy toward Taiwan's main motivation, an analysis of its impact on cross-strait relations, to study the issue and came to the conclusion on the future development of cross-strait relations thinking.We need to strengthen cross-strait economic and cultural exchanges, for the Taiwan people, full use of the "era of Ma Ying-jiu" and expand the common interests between China and the United States, with strategic vision and long-term point of view and properly handle the differences between China and the United States, the United States to resolve negative factors in politics and the strengthening of its democracy and legal system, do a good job of focusing on economic construction and strengthen the construction and improvement of military forces, and eventually realize the reunification of the motherland.
