National sovereigntyand territorial integrityis the most basic right to a country.TheTaiwan issue is a serious problem, it concerns to the sovereigntyand territorial integrityofChina. Chinese people look forward to the return ofTaiwan and the motherland's reunificationand made unremitting efforts. However, due to various reasons, theTaiwan issue is fail toresolve,The people's republic of china and Taiwan Strait are still forced across the sea. Thekey reason is the United States and other international forces to interfere this problem.Taiwanhas been the most sensitive issue of the Chinese-U.S relations.The attitude and the measuresof the United States to theTaiwan issue have a great influence to the cross-strait direction. Inthe new century, the United States made a series of adjustments to its global strategy, haseased the relations with China, and has also changed his attitude and strategyon theTaiwanissue.These adjustments resulted in an unprecedented cross-strait relations impact. In a nearterm, these adjustments have some positive effect. But we should also see the real U.S. policytowardTaiwan is to safeguard U.S. interests, based on full consideration of U.S. globalstrategyand decision.The essence is still to maintain the status of the cross-strait, noindependence, no unification, and no war. Therefore, if the United States can not radicallyadjust its policytowardTaiwan it will cause tension across theTaiwan Strait, the deteriorationof Sino-US relations and the instabilityof EastAsia.This article focuses on the adjustment ofU.S. policytowardTaiwan in the new century, the reason whythe United States to make theseadjustments, the characteristics of U.S. policytowardTaiwan, and the impact of theseadjustments and China's countermeasures.
