Foreign Hotel Competitiveness Comparative Study

There was few accommodation facilities of international standard offered in China before its open to world, which affected heavily the attraction of oversea tourists. With the Group of Peninsula managing the Beijing Jian Guo Hotel in 1982, the level and idea of management in domestic-funded hotel ?became some near to modern. And step by step, the increase of high level Sino-joint Venture and cooperated hotels benefited and attracted more and more tourists. Now, there is a much more mature and reasonable system of hotel in China, including different levels hotels, which service different people with different demands. Most important, there was great progress in the management of domestic-funded hotel after competition with foreign-funded hotel in the past 20 years. Though there are still some a distinct gap between the management levels of domestic-funded hotel and foreign-funded hotel, which is now being smaller and smaller.With the study the profit of hotel, there was still a great gap between of domestic-funded hotel and foreign-funded hotel. The study showed that the 15% foreign-funded hotels occupied near 85% hotel profit in China. It suggested that great improvement can be made in the management of domestic-funded hotels.Based on the several years' statistic data and the questionnaire on the tourist, the paper compares the current situation between the domestic-funded hotel and foreign-funded hotel in shanghai. The analysis has found that the foreign-funded hotel possess strong competitive advantages over the domestic ones in 8 norms. The paper concludes that only when the domestic-funded hotel reform the right system and manage system, improve the innovation ability, strengen the management of human resource, quicken development of the hotel group can they be success in the competition to the foreign-funded hotel and have the further development in the world.
