Guilin Industry Structure Analysis And Adjustment Strategies

During the period of the tenth five-year plan, the strategic economic restructure has been put in a dominant position in developing our national economy. The industrial structure is the most vital and fundamental part of economic structure. The industrial restructuring and upgrading go hand in hand with the economic restructuring and enable the economy to develop in a sustainable, stable, and sound way. With regard to the general law of updating transformation and rational restructure of the industrial structure and in the light of equilibrium, advances, and structural benefits of Guilin's industrial structure and the historical lessons learned from the industrial restructuring, the paper first of all puts forth an industry-oriented strategic framework for Guilin's industrial restructure which focuses on the harmonious development of industry and tourism and the integral development of industrialization and urbanization. Second, in combination with the actual situation of Guilin's economy and by the use of qualitative and quantitative methods, the paper makes a analysis of Guilin's industrial structure by comparing it with that at home and abroad in order to reveal its existing problems: 1. There is a slow advance in the adjustment of agricultural structure and the industrialization of agricultural technology. The specialization of agricultural production is low and there is a little use of technology in agricultural products. 2. No headway has been made in the industrial restructure. The second industry has fallen short of a full development and the overall industrial output is at a low level. 3. The quality and level of the tertiary industry are low and unable to meet the social demands for multi-layer services. Finally, the paper advances some countermeasures and proposals for the industrial restructure in the hope that the findings of this theoretical research on the industrial restructure can be put to practical use and give rise to plans for economic growth for the local government's reference.
