This paper mainly talks about how enterprises to select proper industries in the case of diversity operating. It insist that the enterprise should abide by the "correlation-attraction" rule, think of strengthening the core competence as start and end-result("correlation" rule), enter the businesses with great attraction("attraction" rule) when adapt the diversity strategy. The content consists of four parts. The first part is exordium, introduces the backgrounds and purpose, the domestic and abroad development about the research on the topics, a lot of theories on diversification and industry selection. In the second part, presents the basic concepts and relative theories of "the core competence" in detail, includes identification and diagnosis of the core competence. In the third part, the focus is industry analysis, introduces methods to evaluate the attraction and analyze the key success factors. The last part systematically discusses the throughout process of industry selection, minutely introduces the practical experiences in selecting the industries of the GE corporation, and the diversity strategy of the Haier corporation.This paper has two prominent characteristics as follows: one is novelty, outspreads fullyaround the rule--"correlation -attraction", imbibes a lot of newly achievements aboutdiversity operating, the core competence, and industry analysis, etc. The other is the using of quantitative analysis methods which are strongly exercisable, these methods are demonstrated by some examples.
