China is the biggest developing country in the world and economic growth is the uppermost issue for it. China is still at the early or middle stage of economic soar. With China's entry to the WTO, the market orientation and liberalization of foreign trade will be improved further, and the promotion effect of foreign trade on economic growth is comprehensive and far-reaching. First of all, it analyses the determinant elements of economic growth, indicates that the economic growth is decided either by short-term factors(Demand factor)-Investment^ Consumption and Net Export, or by long-term factors (Supply factor) -Factor supply and Total Factors productivity. Second, it analyses this effect mechanism and restricted factors through long-term , short-term effect and over developed impact of foreign trade, with the emphasis such as trade strategy , trade policy , trade shock , import and export goods compositions along with trade means effect. The second section analyses the significant effect of foreign trade on our country's economic growth since reform and open policy through demonstration angle. The research first indicates that since reform and open policy, the net export effect of our country is not as great as we thought. Second, from the long-term point of view, the importeffect is very significant especially to a large developing country as China. Therefore, we should pay attention to import as much as export. The third section is through the proposal angle to provide proposal of improving foreign trade promoting economic growth. This conclusion obviously differs from the present widely-accepted viewpoint "Export acts more, import acts less".Research methods of this article are determined by the features of research target. Therefore it has the following several features: theory analysis combines with demonstration analysis, qualitative analysis combines with quantitative analysis, long-term investigation combines with short-term analysis, domestic analysis co...
