Container transportation is a revolution in the transportation industry. In the general cargo transportation, It takes a long time to load and unload cargoes for the variety. These problems are solved in the Container transportation. And the freight volume are increasing quickly and the operation is standardization in the recent ten years, whereas some problems arise such as surplus of fright volume, malignant price competition and severity empty container repositioning. This essay analyzes the main problems in the equipment management of liner shipping company and provides some methods in raising efficiency of equipment management. This essay is divided into six chapters.The first chapter presents the development status of container transportation, the container price of the recent twenty years and main content of equipment management.The second chapter analyzes amount of allocated containers in one route and in a port. The amount of allocated in one route has a direct ratio with the container ship capacity, the number of ships and the turnover time of container in inland. In addition, the amount of allocated containers is influenced by other factors, such as whether there are other ports in the route, the total overturn time of the ship.This essay deduces that the demanded container number in one port in a year is a normal school stochastic variable by analyzing the data.The third chapter is about container leasing in equipment control of liner shipping company. Container leasing includes long-term leasing, short-term leasing and master leasing. The essay gives the characteristic of each container-leasing mode. A method to find out the proportion of container leasing and container owned is given. And the essay analyzed the points of container-leasing contract that the shipping company should master for better control in the negotiation with container leasing company.Overdue containers increased the cost of equipment management. The fifth chapter analyzes the reason of overdue containers and presents the methods to cut down overdue containers.The fourth chapter is on empty container reposition. Empty container reposition is an important content of equipment management. Firstly, empty container reposition is due to regionally imbalance and seasonally imbalance of cargo flowing. Then the essay provides some methods to decrease empty container reposition from qualitative angle such as shipping route adjusting, cooperation of shipping companies and container information management system, etc.From quantitative angle, without considering container leasing, the empty container leasing can be considered as Transportation Problem, namely how to balance the empty container supply and demand at the least cost. The essay gives three other models with considering container leasing, net flowing model, dynamic stochastic model and inland empty container reposition model.The fifth part: The applying of information management system gives prominence results in this information era. Each great liner shipping company has its own container information management system. For the exchange of containers or the equipment management of small liner shipping company, the third party information systems such as Interbox, Synchrobox and Graybox are better choices. Following are the essay trying to finding out: How to decide the number of allocated empty container for shippingcompany; How to find out the proportion of container leasing and container owned ;And what important points in container leasing contract should be noticed.
