Since 1990's, in the international transportation industry, the transporting mode has been developing from being dissevered to unified and intensive. All the changes such as economic globalization, logistic integration and container-transporting mode indicate that all the organizations inside the international transporting system will re-establish their positions, and fulfill the conversion of their functions, and a brand-new developing mode of the port is coming into being.With the procedure of economic globalization faster and faster, China's entry to WTO does not bring only a lot of challenges, as well as more chances to the traditional shipping industry. Facing with the changing working circumstances, all the shipping enterprises should fulfill the conversation from functional to strategic mode so as that they can adapt to the new environment and figure for new developments.In the thesis, we will discuss the necessity and feasibility of investing on ports through analyzing the internal and external environments of the shipping enterprises. On the basis of this we can draw the beneficial conclusion on strategic choice of investing on ports.Chapter One mainly analyzes the changes of the external environments that the shipping enterprises faced with/The economic globalization, China's entry to WTO and the development of modern logistic will greatly influence the development of the shipping industry. In this chapter we will also list some problems of the shipping enterprises and the technical route the thesis is studying on.Chapter Two discusses on the feasibility of investing on ports. It's mainly including three parts: the chances of the Port Law's come-on will bring to investment on ports; the advantages of investing on ports; the bright prospect of the investment market.Chapter Three mainly researches on the shipping enterprises' business strategy. In order to solidify and enhance their own status in the international competition, all the large-scale shipping enterprises establish their new operation and promotion strategy including multi-operation and integration so as to reduce their costs and enhance their service quality. Investing on ports is one way to implement the shipping enterprises' multi-operation, as well as an effective way of fulfilling integrated strategy.Chapter Four analyzes the competition circumstances of investing on Chinese ports. At the beginning part of this chapter, we analyze and assess the attraction in the investing field, and then on the basis of Michael Port's three basic competition strategy, we put forward a strategy when facing with the competitors, that is pointing exceed. In port investment market, we divided the competitors into- one is professional investor and large-scale shipping hold company or the ports investing enterprise which is belong to the same group.Chapter Five is the case-analyzing part. It is said that COSCO Group's investing on ports is feasible under the integrated strategy according to the analysis on the strategyof investing on the ports. The competition strategy of COCSO Group on ports investing market includes system integration and one-point centralization.Chapter Six is the conclusion part of the whole thesis. It draws some conclusions through analyzing the internal and external environment that the shipping enterprises are facing with and operating strategy of a shipping enterprise investing on ports.
