Chain store origins in USA, in the end of 1850's, the first chain store was established in New York, up to now it has a very long history of about 200 years. But until 1950's did chain store show people its great potential, and chain store got widely develop in both developed and developing countries and has achieved great achievement.In the economics' view, the chain store's essence is to integrate the modern industry method and large scale management method together, uses methods of "unified, professionalized, standardized", implement standard service and scientific management, thus it can get the goal of whole scale business operating ability and corresponding operating ability and large scale operating benefit. In the international market, chain store operating method has been used as a kind of enterprise organization; it has been a main stream of product retail developing direction. The chain store began to develop in China in 1990's, along with the foreign invested food store coming into China. From 1990's, many domestic business company began to develop method of chain store operating and got achievement, but now, there is still many problem exist, constraint the healthy develop of chain store in China. Especially after China's entering into WTO, our retailing market will be more widely opened to the world, our own domestic chain store operators will compete with the foreign operators directly, and these foreign operators are of advanced management, giant capital and experience. How to develop the chain store method of our own is a very important meaning for us all.In this article, the author discussed the different aspects such as chain store types, industry condition, developing patterns and operating level, trying to find out the main problems in the development and dhe distance between domestic ones and foreign ones, and the author is advocate the free-join method so that we can solve and improve the weak condition of small scale, low compete strength less controlling ability of resource.This article can be divided into four parts, in the first part, the concept of chain store is described, and the history of chain store's history in China is reviewed; in the second part, the operating condition is discussed, the domestic chain store's operatingcondition is also discussed, furthermore, the international chain store giant's strategy in China is also analyzed; in the third part, the typical chain store was analyzed; in the last part, the problems found in the chain store establishment in China were discussed in this article, new solving ways and methods are supplied by the author after carefully and deep research.
