My dissertation is an interpretation to a text of Carl Schmitt------A Dialogueon Power, which is mainly discussing Carl Schmitt's views of power. There are six parts in this dissertation, including a introduction, four sections of the main body and at last a postscriptIn the introduction, the author answers a question:"Why should we read Carl Schmitt Today?" At first, the author ananlyzes the status quo of Schmittian study in western intelligentsia, and then points out why we Chinese people should read Carl Schmitt today. In the first section of the main body, the author gives an interpretation to the question why Schmitt seeks a neutral postion when considering the power problems. The author acclaims this neutral position does not derive from any modem social science, but from a kind of history of Machiavelli's.In the second section, the author explains why Schmitt puts two differentnature concepts------an ancient nature concept and a modem nature concepttogether. In the author's opinion, in this mixture, Schmitt veils his real understandings of power, power is neither from the ancient nature concept, nor a Hobbesian nature concept, but from a nature of Romans. In the third section, the author makes an analysis to two rules of power, which Carl Schmitt displays to us.The first is the residual value of power, in this part, the author points out the similarity between Carl Schmitt's residual vale and Pareto's concept of residum. The second is a dialectics of power, which happens between dominators and non-dominators.In the last section, the authors interprets the real intention behind the relationship between power and technology which Carl Schmitt narrates. In Schmitt's opinion, the technology is only a scapegoat of brutalities in human's nature. In the postscript, the author analyzes the relationship between power and rights, and then points out excessive propaganda to consciousness of rights is improper and harmful.
