This paper uses the Constructivist theory to analyze the change of the collective identity in the South Korea-US alliance and its direction. From the'national identity's point of view, we will talk about the policy of Roh Moo-hyun government and its theory -- "a balancer in Northeast Asia", the main content of which and the analysis is to be evaluated. This study has four purposes: First, to analyze the change of the collective identity. Second, to analyze the influence of Korea's national identity from international society. Third, the main contents about "balancer in Northeast Asia" theory of the Government of Roh Moo-hyun and its influence. Forth, to found out the influence of the change of the collective identity and the Korean national identity on the Korea-US alliance relationship, and analyze the future direction of the Korea-US alliance.Collective identity is the main target of theoretical research on international relations, which is often unstable among the changes of the international and domestic environment. Collective identity changes depend primarily on three variables: "interdependence", "common destiny" and "homogeneity". After the end of the Korean War, South Korea and the United States founded their alliance, facing a common "communist threat". On one hand, South Korea needed military protection and economic support from the United States, and on the another hand, the United States were for the sake of its strategic interests, the two sides promoted the foundation of alliance between the two countries. After the Cold War, South Korea developed to be a democratic country, and the common threat of the South Korea-US alliance disappeared, gradually, the South Korea has broken away from its economic dependence on the United States, the South Korea-US alliance has signs of loosening."National identity" is an important concept in international relations, associated with the international society, and has a changing character. "National identity" will change as time changes in the same country, and it will occur differently in different countries during the same period. Because of the special geographical location, South Korea is always the "outposts" of the strategic interests in Northeast Asia, and for a long time, South Korea is the United States faithful follower. After the Cold War, South Korea maintained a good relationship with the Northeast Asian nations, and established diplomatic relations with China and Russia. There was a comprehensive development of South Korea-China relations as well as construction, complementary relationship between South Korea and Russia. Although there was obvious contradiction between South Korea and Japan in the sovereignty, territorial integrity, history and so on, but it didn't matter much for the development of future-oriented South Korea-Japan relations. As the international community developing and the growing of its domestic forces, South Korea gradually became aware of the necessity of their national identity change. Roh Moo-hyun government timely proposed a "balancer in Northeast Asia" theory, and its main content is that South Korea looking forward to be the"balancer"in the northeast Asian region. However, from a negative perspective, Northeast Asian security mechanism has not yet been established, there are also many sensitive issues in this area, such as the North Korean nuclear issue, the two Koreas split, the prominent contradictions and the hegemonic power competitions, etc. so we can see that the Northeast Asian is not at peace. In order to draw a lesson from history and avoid once again into the quagmire of war, South Korea must strike a balance relation among major powers. But obviously, the role of balanced relations among major powers is to be a balancer in the northeast Asian.Military alliance is always the focus in the alliance relationship between South Korea and US, but as both sides making changes in the strategy, this military alliance has become vulnerable. Large-scale adjustment of the size of USFK, moving its resident southward and moreover strengthening the Japan-US alliance relations, all of the above have aroused the South Korean concerns. However, facing the instability of the Northeast Asia, the Korean nuclear issue and outstanding relatively backwardness of its military strength, South Korea still needs the United States military presence. The United States also needs South Korea in Northeast Asia as the "strategic outposts," South Korea to a certain extent, though, limits the scope of the allied cooperation, but the space limited is not large. South Korea-US alliance relations will still exist, and the two sides will cooperate though there is still competition, and will coordinate, though there are differences between the two states. The South Korea and the US have to make some adjustment from the subordinate relationship to be an equal one.
