With the pains brought by China's modern social transformation, China's modern legal education came into existence under the movement of introducing knowledge from West to East. During the prosperous period between 1912 and 1927, traditional education was rejected, inherited, negated, and expanded, legal professionals sprung out in a large number, and legal education system became perfect relatively. Since 1927 until 1949, the legal education tended to decline as a whole, which is not unrelated to the vicissitudes of society, the limits on legal education by Nanjing National Government, and the destruction of economy thereof. A plenty of legal educational institutions were dissolved, the number of law overseas students declined sharply, and there were few professors engaging in law education. Reflecting the overall development of China's modern legal education, the ups and downs of legal education produced precious experiences and lessons for us. For the contemporary legal education, the author aims to provide some lessons and elicitations through an analysis in depth about the reasons of rise and fall of legal education.
