Women In Politics, Research, And The Building Of A Harmonious Society

The Fourth Plenary Session of the 16th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China put forward the general requirement of "building a harmonious socialist society". The realization of gender equality and the promotion of men and women's equal role in the harmonious development of society and families is the prerequisite of the comprehensive, balanced and sustainable development of economy, society and human beings. Women's equal political rights as men in taking part in the management of the state and social affairs is the inevitable requirement for the implementation of the basic policy of equal rights of men and women, for the comprehensive advancement of women's status, is an important symbol of advancing the women's status and emancipating the women's rights, and is significant content of developing socialist democratic politics and building socialist political civilization.During the process of building harmonious society, women's participation in the politics is considered not only the symbol of the progress of society and civilization, but also the internal driving force for the realization of social society. With the accelerated economic and social development and the gradual promotion of political civilization, women's involvement into the politics, as a practical problem of great significance, is becoming a hot topic in theoretical study. Through the introduction of achievements and problems of Chinese women's participation in politics, and the analysis of its influencing factors and the concretes practices of women's participation in the grass root politics, the article, starting from the internal relationship between women's participation in politics and the building of social harmony, is attempting to research the counter policies to improve the women's involvement into politics, being benefit to its development accordingly.The article can be divided into five parts:The first part: introduction. Mainly introduce the concepts of women's political participation, researching background and experience in international practice. Firstly, the article gives the definition of women's participation in politics, including participation of democracy and power. It further analyzes its meaning from four aspects of knowing, discussing, participating and leading political affairs. And on this basis, the history of women in politics has been recalled and the practices and analysis have been made in experiences of some countries in the world, which can be learnt from.The second part: the internal relationship between women's participation in politics and the building of social harmony. First of all, it introduces the background and the meaning of building harmonious society. Secondly, from the view that the equal rights of men and women are the internal requirement of social harmony, the article proposes that the equal rights of men and women and the building harmonious society is inseparable. This leads to the positive impacts of women's participation in politics to the promotion of harmonious society.The third part: analysis the conditions and problems of Chinese women's participation in the politics during the process of building harmonious society. Firstly, the article sums up the favorable conditions and the achievements we have made in Chinese women's participation in the political affairs. Secondly, the article points out the practical problems of women's participation in politics and analyzes a variety of constraints on China's impact Chinese women's political participation.The fourth part: the article introduces the practices, achievements and the problems of"designation of women members in village committee"during the election in the villages where the author works. At the same time, from the perspective of the author herself, the article states her understanding of countryside women's participation in politics and her analysis of the practical difficulties, either subjective or objective, of countryside women's participation in the political affairs.The fifth part: suggestions on countermeasures of women's participation in the political affairs in the process of building a harmonious society. In this part the author put forward the main suggestions on countermeasures: firstly, it is of great significance to optimize the external environment for women's participation in the political affairs, establishing policy and law environment benefit to women's participation in the political affairs; improving the binding and protection mechanism; and upgrading the cultural environment for women's participation in the political affairs. Secondly, it is of vital importance to enhance the women's ability to take part in political affairs, including fostering their sense of subjectivity, improving the schooling, gaining economic independence and strengthen their competence of practice.
