| With the deepening of reform and opening up and the acceleration ofurbanization in China, looking for jobs out of the countryside has been analternative for farmers to improve living conditions, which helps elevate theirliving standards and also vigorously promote the construction of new socialistcountryside. However, a large number of women left behind appear as aunique group during the period of social transformation with the large outflowof rural labor, in particular, the young rural labor. Left-behind women refer toa special group of females who have been left at home to take care of theelderly and the young, and whose husbands have been doing work outside thecountry for a long time. As a main force in the construction of newcountryside, their survival and development become a large concern for thesociety. For the absence of strong labor force, they, very often, face problemslike labor-intensive work and heavy spiritual burden, which severely affecttheir physical and mental health and the quality of life, consequentlyhampering them to be the main force. At the current stage, there are47million left-behind women in rural areas. To help them get out of the dilemmaand play their important role in the construction of socialist harmonioussociety and the new countryside become a practical problem that needs to besolved urgently.Various problems faced by rural left-behind women in the context ofChina’s harmonious society are discussed in this paper, based on the survey ofliving situation of rural women in Hubei Province. It analyzes the reasons ofthose problems. Also, some solutions and strategies to improve theirconditions are put forward. Through studying and solving their problems, more concerns are given to the disadvantaged groups of the society, whichmotivates them to actively take part in the construction of new socialistcountryside. This paper offers theoretic references for the harmoniousdevelopment of socialist society. |
