Law is omnipresent in our life. It is embodied in language, that is, language is the carrier of the law.Semantics is one of the branch of linguistics, we will understand the meaning of the speech, only if we get the semantic. The legal language places the importance on the semantic equally. This thesis is going to analyze the semantic of the legal language from the lay of the semantic, using correlation theory of the semantics to compare it with semantic of modern Chinese on synchronic lay. On the basis of the comparison, I analyze the semantic of the legal language from the lay of the Pragmatic Approach to disclose the peculiarity of the legal languages. The thesis is made up of seven parts. Chapter 1 gives a brief introduction to both the foreign and domestic status of research on the legal languages; Chapter 1 gives a brief introduction to the semantic of analysis, and analyzes the concrete application of the legal languages; Chapter 3 sketches out the concrete application of the theories of semantics; Chapter 4 analyzes the synchronic comparison between the semantic of mercantile law and modern Chinese. Chapter 5 analyzes the fuzzy language in the legal language. Chapter 6 gives introduction to "evaluation feature of the semantic" and "directional feature of the semantic" of the mercantile law; Chapter 7 is epilogue. The author concludes the whole dissertation and points out that the mercantile language is a kind of customary language. We can get the concept of the letter of the law more than the meaning we get from the semantic of modern Chinese, and we can not get it by means of definition with preference, it is the aim of the dissertation to use the semantic of analysis to get the real meaning on the basis of the analysis of cases.
