Womack Mao Zedong Thought Analysis

Brantley Womack is an American renowned expert on Mao Zedong; a world- famous expert on East Asian Issues and also a political scientist on compared politics. He utilizes the research technique of "organic interpretive method" to explain the development of Mao Zedong's political thoughts. On the basis of trying to grasp the concrete historical perspective and comprehensively unfolding the forming process of Mao's politics paradigm, he especially stressed that Mao Zedong takes seriously on the importance of "practice", which helps to take the first step on understanding seriously; evaluating and utilizing Mao Zedong's political thoughts. In a word, Womack's research on Mao's thoughts had a novel angel of analysis; a path innovation about the explanation of the content and caused to think deeply, which had a certain theoretical and practical meaning to deeply understand the domestic research of Mao's thoughts and its feature of "practice".The object of this article is to explain and evaluate on "The foundations of Mao Zedong's political Thought 1917-1935"written by Womack.Womack's basic information, the domestic and foreign research situation were briefly introduced. Womack's research on the historical development vein of Mao Zedong's thoughts was clarified systematically. And this thesis showed the innovation of the Womack's analysis. While Womack's researching method and basic feature were summarized. This thesis was composed of four chapters: Introduction; the historical development clue of Womack's research on Mao Zedong's thoughts; the evaluation on important propositions of Mao Zedong's thoughts; essential features and the research techniques of Womack's research on Mao's thoughts.Chapter 1: Firstly the theoretic and practical significance will be introduced. Secondly, Professor Brantley Womack and his main academic achievements will be briefly introduced; make a detailed summary of domestic and foreign research present situation of Brantley Womack's research on Mao's thoughts.Chapter 2: Womack's research on the historical development vein of Mao's thoughts. The oversea survey on Mao's thoughts will be first briefly introduced in this chapter. And then, according to the time sequence of Womack's research on Mao's thoughts, the main research results of each stage of Womack's research on Mao's thoughts is systematically combed, that is the three stages of Womack's research on Mao's thoughts: 1972-1974; 1974-1981; 1981-1986.Chapter 3: The evaluation of the important propositions of Womack's research on Mao Zedong's thoughts. Womack's four important propositions of Mao Zedong's thoughts were commented in this chapter. Firstly, the path innovation of Mao's early time thoughts about united front commented by Brantley Womack's "organic interpretive method" will be exposited in this chapter. His main contribution was objectively analyzing the background of the united front; correctly making a sharp perspective on united front's nature in early times; stressing on Mao's thought about the leadership and emphasizing on farmers' power of the united front. Secondly, this chapter will introduce in detail the path innovation of Womack's research on Mao's theory of the new democratic revolution way. The successful transition of spatial latitude is the prerequisite of the forming of Mao's political paradigm. The key content of Mao's political paradigm is his theory of leadership. Thirdly, this chapter will briefly evaluate Womack's research on the origin of Mao's thoughts which mainly comes from "practice". Fourthly, this chapter will briefly introduce and evaluate Womack's research on the reasons of Mao's fault in his old age.Chapter 4: The essential features and the research method of Womack's research on Mao's thoughts were briefed. The basic characteristics of Womack's research on Mao Zedong's thoughts were summarized in this chapter: firstly, affirming the construction of Mao Zedong's thoughts in the long run for Chinese politics; second, laying emphasis on Mao's individual political practice to analyze his political thought; attaching importance to the view of emphasizing the farmer, and discussing CPC's powerful leading; analyze the unique way of revolution from stressing on the paradigm innovation. In the end, Womack's unique research technique of "organic interpretivemethod" will be introduced in detail and evaluated.
