China's Participation In Un Peacekeeping Operations

The peacekeeping operation carried out by UN is significant means and initiation of UN to realize the maintenance of international peace and security. In the past 60 years, the UN peacekeeping operations have played an important role in maintaining world peace and security, and have enlisted support and approval of people all over the world. As human society entered the 21st century, the trend of diversified international security situation illustrates a good prospect of the peacekeeping operations. Meanwhile, in view of the obscurity and lack of institutionalization for UN peacekeeping operations, the western countries, headed by the United States, have been invested with deepen western glamour in participating in peacekeeping operations. In addition, owing to the changing conflict ways in the supported countries and areas, there will be a long way to go for UN peacekeeping operations. As Kofi Annan, UN ex-secretary general, said that peacekeeping operations should continue to press forward although there existed success and failure at the same time.Under the direction of the spirit of the charter of UN, China support and highly attaches importance to the effect of the maintenance of international peace and security. Meanwhile, China actively contributes to preserving the international peace and security and plays a unique and constructive role in sustaining peace, settlement of disputes, elimination of the scourge of war and other domains. The participation of UN peacekeeping operations is not only the deserved important responsibility of China as a world big power; but also inevitable demand of complying with China's increasing international profit; more over, paves an important and effective platform for China's deeper involving in the international security mechanism. However, hope goes with trouble; opportunity goes with challenge. The complexity of UN peacekeeping operations, the restriction of available resources in participating in the peacekeeping operations, and the new change of current international security situation and the new trend of the development of peacekeeping operations put forward new challenge in China's involvement in the peacekeeping operations.Confronted with the severe challenge in the peacekeeping operations, we must practice genuine knowledge according to the spirit of the charter of UN and UN peacekeeping operations, safeguard the authority of principle-unity of command in UN peacekeeping operations, maintain conceivable and traditional rules, reform peacekeeping mechanism, carry out peacekeeping operations according to our own ability, establish stay permit,make peace strategy and so on to promote the continuous development of UN peacekeeping operations. It is good to learn at another man's cost. Confronted with new challenge in involving in China's participation in UN peacekeeping operations, we must insist in reviewing our useful experience and learning lessons from our mistakes in UN peacekeeping operations under the guidance of the principles of the UN Charter to realize the strategic objectives of world peace and development and the strategic goal of building up a strong power and peaceful rising, to creatively estimate strategic methods in involving in UN peacekeeping operations in practice according to the situation of peacekeeping operations and to play our own role in solving international hot pots to manifest China's image of a big responsible nation to accelerate the construction of harmonious world.
