Since China resumed its legal seat in the United Nations,China has been playing an active and important role in international affairs as its international status and influence have increased. In terms of world peace,China,as one of the five permanent members of the UN security council and a major contributor to UN peacekeeping operations, firmly upholds the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and actively participates in various UN peacekeeping operations. However, with the complexity of the international situation and the apparent increase in regional security conflicts, not only the UN peacekeeping operations themselves need to be self-improved and adjusted, but China s policies and approaches to UN peacekeeping operations also need to be changed in time to meet the needs of future peacekeeping operations. Therefore, this article focuses on the status quo of China s participation in UN peacekeeping operations and thinks about its future development. This paper firstly reviews the history of UN peacekeeping operations and then identifies the main issues of UN peacekeeping operations through three classic cases—the Iraq war,the Somali peacekeeping operation, and the Rwandan massacre.Secondly,it reviews the history of China s participation in UN peacekeeping operations, and summarizes the current status of its role, participation mechanism and characteristics. This part finishes by pointing out the current problems of China s participation in UN peacekeeping operations, including lack of voice power;the imbalance of the China s contributions to the United Nations funds and the number of Chinese officials;the internal limits of the United Nations peacekeeping system. Finally, through the above analysis, the future breakthrough of China's participation in peacekeeping operations is carried out in the end of this paper. The main directions are to establish a peacekeeping concept with Chinese characteristics, adapt to UN reform and train follow-up talents, and finally establish an independent and inclusive peacekeeping policy while focusing on economic development. The contributions of this paper can not only help China to better assume its international responsibilities, fulfill its obligations as a permanent member of the UN security council, but also provide Chinese wisdom and China s programs for world peace, prosperity and development. The research results of this paper can also be used as a direct reflection of China s participation in global governance and being a responsible country in the new era.
