In order to become a permanent member of the UN Security Council, Japan made a series of diplomatic efforts, including cooperating with Germany, Brazil and India, and building four-nation alliance. In addition, Japan also make world-wide lobbying efforts to gain support of other countries. The support of the United States is the most important to Japan,because of the special relationship between the United States and the United Nation. The U.S. will play a crucial role in admitting Japan as permanent member of the UN Security Council. At the same time, Japan's become the permanent member of UN Security Council would also effect the interests of the United States. This paper analysised the policies of the United States to admitting Japan as permanent member of the UN Security Council from the Cold War to the present time and the impacts of those policies.
