As one of the world's four ancient civilizations, India is being towards the world stage with the most powerful momentum since its independence. The traditional culture of the country is not abandoned by history with the passage of time; many cultures still spread and flourish. Like a coin has two sides, culture also contains the essence and the dross. Indian culture is not an exception. India's caste system as a social tradition for thousands of years is still an important social norm in India today. Nowadays most countries of the world pursue and recognize the principle of equality, while Indian caste system emphasize the hierarchy and divided people into different rank. It is obviously counter to the principle of equality, and plays the role of certain obstacles to India's goal of the pursuit of world power. On the one hand, this paper has a brief review on historical development and status of the caste system, and focuses on description its contents and influence in the present Indian society. Although these influences have positive and negative aspects, the negative impacts are more and important than the positive ones to India in the nowadays of the pursuit of world power. Therefore this article discusses the caste system's negative impact as the main target. On the other hand, India has been striving for world power status; overall national strength showed a gradually increasing. If we take the hard power and the soft power as a standard for judging the comprehensive national strength, India is still have a long way to go, and Indian caste system will also play the role of certain obstacles. Consequently this article focuses on the negative impacts of Indian caste system to its hard power and soft power, and analysis the simple cause of this effect. The final conclusion is that, India caste system and its value as a unique part of the culture have been inseparable with the Indians, and if you want the total elimination of caste system in India and its impact is an impossible thing. In India the negative impact of the caste system is bound to its pursuit of world power, the key is how to control this effect. The author in the study and analysis of the above problems and consider that the caste system is only of self-integration in order to adapt to the modern society is the only way out, and will enable India to the world powers less resistance on the road with the faster speed.
