The purpose of the present study was to explore the effect of parenting styles and students'autonomy on students'academic record.333 primary school students in Shanghai participated in this study and responded to EMBU.1993, and to the primary Students autonomy Measure (Ying Xu.,2006). Results were shown as follows:1. Parenting styles had effect on students'academic record, father's influence over their mother. Specially, parents'sentiments warm and support were positively related to students'academic record; parents'punishment and severe were negatively related to students'academic record; fathers'refuse and repudiate and overprotect were negatively related to students'academic record.2. Parenting styles had effect on students'autonomy, father's influence over their mother. Specially, parents'sentiments warm and support were positively related to students'autonomy; parents'punishment and severe were negatively related to students'autonomy; parents'refuse and repudiate were negatively related to students'autonomy; fathers'overprotect were negatively related to students' autonomy.3. Students'autonomy had important effect on students'academic record, and the effect were over Parenting styles. Specially, self-dependence and self-controlling self-decisiveness were greatly and positively related to students'academic record; self-confident were greatly and positively related to Chinese and mathematics record,but negatively related to English record.4. Further analysis by Structural Equation Model also supported that level of parents' sentiments warm and support influenced students'academic record through students'autonomyAll of these results indicated that both parenting styles and students'autonomy had influence on students'academic record, and students'autonomy mediated the influence of parenting styles on students'academic record. These findings contributed to a growing body of literature on related theories, and provided parents with more information to take effective strategies to optimize the development of students' thinking styles.
