A Study On The Duality Of Social Work Practice Service

Practice is a special means of professional education of social work, and we allknow that social work emphasizes practice. Both of them determine the professionalpractice of social work need to be researched specifically.At present, the study of social work practice always focuses on its " educationalattribute", to discuss how to make the practice play a greater role in students’professional growth. But practice is different from the professional education in theclassroom, it needs the participation of the organizations and the service objects, sowe say that practice have a certain "practical attribute", too. This paper mainlydiscusses the services that derive from the process of social work professional practice.In this article, it is defined as " practice service of social work".In this paper, we choose the interns of New Citizen Program as the major portion ofthe interview objects. In particular, the interns who recruited to render a social workservice to four migrant schools in Beijing in the fall semester of2013. And theinterviews of some other interns in the other organizations as supplement. Throughstructural and semi-structured interviews, this paper try to collect the feelings andviews of these interns who provided practice service of social work. By finishing thispart of the interview data, the paper summarizes some features of the practice serviceof social work which are different from the general sense of social work services. Onthis basis, through the second interview, the article attempts to analyze the essentialcharacteristics of the practice service of social work, and is defined as itsduality--professional and voluntary coexist. After that, this paper mainly uses somepoints of view of role theory--such as role cluster, role conflict etc, to explain theduality and the impact of it. At the end of the article, we try to put forward somesuggestions to improve the professional practice service of social work from twoaspects--how to use the personal willingness and enthusiasm of the interns best, andhow to improve the specialization of the practice service of social work. This paper emphasizes the "practice attribute" of the practice of social work, andfocuses on the service produced from the process of social work practice, that is moreunique perspective. On the basis of summarizing and analyzing the features ofpractice service of social work, this paper puts forward some countermeasures for itsimprovement. That is conducive to social work students’ better professional practice,and to improve the quality of practice teaching. That is also significative to guide thesocial work institutions cooperate with the university resources more effectively.
