The ethnic traditional sports are important part of our national culture; they playa key role not only upholding national culture, inspiring national spirit and enhancingnational unity etc. but also having significant function in the field of education andoverall fitness. With the advancement of modern society, many ethnic traditionalsports are on the brink of extinction; therefore, protecting, inheriting and developingethnic traditional sports in these areas have been an imperative work. But the longexisting realistic difficulties such as the shortages of sports field and facilities etc.which affect and restrict the implementation of school physical education. Bringingtraditional ethnic sports into the teaching content of school physical education is theobjective demand of social reality in ethnic areas. The implementation of ethnictraditional sports curriculum in ethnic areas in the junior schools of Lijiang has beenmore than seven years, but the specific teaching is far from satisfying. So, based onthe understanding to the implementation of ethnic traditional sports curriculum injunior schools of Lijiang, finding out the existing problems, giving ways andsuggestions to these problems, so that can ensure the sound development of ethnictraditional sports curriculum in junior schools of Lijiang.This study begins from the real implementation of ethnic traditional sportscurriculum in junior schools in Lijiang, random research has been done among thephysical education teachers and students in the junior schools in four counties andone district which carries out ethnic traditional curriculum in Lijiang city through theresearch methods of document literature, questionnaire, data statistics andcomprehensive analysis etc. so as to understand the real implementation of ethnictraditional sports curriculum. The investigation contents mainly include the physicaleducation teachers, the courses, extra-curricular activities of ethnic traditional sports,the using of sports field resources and ethnic traditional sports equipments etc. in theschools which carry out ethnic traditional sports. While affirming the gained results inlaunching ethnic traditional physical education, try to find out the existing problems in the process of carrying out the ethnic traditional sports curriculum, give outsuggestions and provide references for scientific development of school ethnictraditional sports curriculum of our motherland.Research results show that Lijiang enjoys rich and colorful ethnic traditionalsports resources, possesses the cultural resource advantage of launching ethnictraditional sports curriculum; ethnic traditional sports curriculum system has beengradually improved. Meanwhile, there are also existing problems as following:School leaders’ supports to ethnic traditional sports are insufficient; teachers’qualification should be improved; the training related to ethnic traditional sports isinsufficient; the resource exploitation of ethnic traditional sports curriculum is notenough etc.Finally, in view of the existing problems in the process of carrying outethnic traditional sports curriculum in Lijiang city, this paper gives out some relevantproposals. Eventually, providing references and suggestions to the scientificdevelopment of ethnic traditional sports in ethnic areas going into schools.
