Equation knowledge has become an important part of mathematics learning in primary school. Adding equation knowledge in primary school mathematics curriculum has an important value and significance to students. People have realized the important position of equation knowledge in primary school mathematics. Students’learning and understanding to the simple equation has become an important problem of primary school mathematics curriculum and teaching. But reflecting on the current domestic research on this issue mainly focus on primary school teachers’ teaching experience summary and reflection, lacking of in-depth study on the students’ understanding about the equation, the low efficiency phenomenon of simple equation of teaching and learning generally exists.Studying aimed at the teaching requirements and teaching content of simple equation in primary school. Dividing the learning content of simple equation in primary school mainly into three parts:"judging whether it is equation or not,""solving equations""setting equations to solve problems",on the basis of reference SOLO classification theory, dividing students’understanding on the three themes into the single structure level, multi structure level and relational structure level three levels of understanding, and design the corresponding questionnaire survey question according to the classification level of understanding, in order to understand the students’ learning and understanding to the simple equation effectively. By questionnaire surveys, combined with the individual interviews of students and teachers, as well as job observation and other research methods, the following main conclusions are obtained:1.Students’ understanding to "judging whether it is equation or not" has reached the single structure level (U).The main reason why they make mistakes is that they are impacted by regular thinking tendency.2.Students’ understanding to "solving equations" has reached the multi structure level (U).About one third of the students has reached the relational structure level in investigation. The main problem is that they are not in accordance with the requirement of the new curriculum, still use the numerical relationship to solve equations. The numerical relationship is confused.3.Students’ understanding to "solving equations" has all reached the single structure level (U).More than half of students have reached the multi structure level. About one fifth of the students have reached the relational structure level. The main problem they faced is the bad habit when they are solving problems, and it is difficult to set a little complex numerical relationship.In the light of the main problems arising in the investigation, as well as the practice of primary school mathematics teaching, put forward the following main suggestions:1.Using the changing teaching strategies properly.2. In the primary school equation teaching highlights the characteristics of the equation advantages.3.In the primary school equation teaching highlights the characteristics of the algebraic thinking.4. Parents choose remedial classes carefully.
