Nowadays the student engagement in classroom teaching is advocated at domestic andoverseas. We should value the students’ dominant positions and appeal when we payingattention to the knowledge. We should also realize the importance of cultivating abilities inthe classroom teaching. The goal of modern education is promoting the students’ free andcomprehensive development, therefore, it is particularly important that students engagementin classroom teaching. Only when the student participate the teaching activities initiativelycan it be the real study, and only when the student really engage in the teaching activities canhe be the principal part of study. However, in the real world, it isn’t optimistic that studentsparticipate in the activities of classroom teaching. The advocated student engagement isencouraging student to be the master of study. When they participate in the teaching activities,they can build knowledge initiatively. While, there is a lot of problems need to be solved inthe student engagement in our country. I selected4primary schools, adopting questionnairesurvey and interview to research the current situation about the student engagement ofhigh-grade in primary school.Primary school is the base component of the whole educational system. And this is avital foundational stage for students’ learning. So it is meaningful to research the primarystudent engagement. Generally, student engagement including behavioral engagement,emotional engagement and cognitive engagement. However, considering my limited ability.This paper only place emphasis on the behavioral engagement. And there has differences indifferent subjects. So I selected English as the research object, researching the studentengagement of high-grade in primary school. Taken questionnaire, observation and interviewmethods to investigate the current situation of student engagement in English class ofhigh-grade in primary school. In the researching process, finding out the problems existed inthe current situation, and analyzing the reasons of the problems, striving to put forward somefeasible countermeasures and suggestions.This paper include five sectors. The first sector elaborated the background of thedissertation, the meaning of the research. The second sector summarized the domestic andoverseas researches about student engagement. Then made a comment about these literatures.Taken examples by the former research, determined a definition of student engagement. Thetheoretical basis and the researching methods. The third sector sorted and analyzed theconsequences of the questionnaire survey and the interview, got the result of the currentsituation about student engagement of high-grade in primary school. Aiming at the current situation, analyzed the merits and demerits. The fourth sector is came up with some advicesand countermeasures. The fifth sector is the conclusion of the research.
