Student engagement refers to the energy and time that students spend on learning,which can reflect their learning attitudes,emotions,strategies and behaviors.Scholars generally divide student engagement into three dimensions: cognitive,behavioral,and emotional engagement.Investigating the situation of international student engagement in China and its influential factors,on the one hand,can help us understand the learning state of international students in China,through the measurement of the international student engagement,and also help us take targeted strategies to improve international student engagement through the exploration of its multi-faceted influential factors.On the other hand,it can help us understand the current situation of internaitonal education in higher education and improve the quality of higher education by improving international student engagement in China.This paper uses the questionnaire to measure the overall international student engagement in China and the specific three engagement dimensions,as well as the influential factors of the three dimensions.The questionnaire is divided into two parts.The first part is the student engagement scale,and the second part is the questionnaire on the factors affecting the international student engagement.The study conducted 131 valid questionnaires in two universities in Jilin,and conducted descriptive statistical analysis,difference analysis,correlation analysis and regression analysis on the data,which led to the current situation of international student engagement in China and the relationship among the engagement dimensions and the influencing factors.The main conclusions of the study are as follows:First,the overall international student engagement in China is relatively high,significantly higher than the medium level.Among them,the level of behavioral engagement and emotional engagement is relatively high,however,the cognitive engagement is relatively low,lower than the overall level.Moreover,there is a significant positive correlation among international students' cognitive,behavioral and emotional engagement,and each dimension promotes each other.Second,international student engagement in China shows varying degrees in gender,age and major.The males' emotional engagement is significantly higher than the females.The level of overall student engagement and cognitive engagement of international students over 30 years old is significantly higher than that of international students under 25 years old.The behavioral engagement of international students majoring in liberal arts is significantly higher than that of international students in science and engineering.Third,personal factors have a significant impact on international student engagement in China.Specifically,learning goal-oriented and self-efficacy can positively influence international student engagement.The effect of self-efficacy on student enagement is greater than that of the purpose of studying abroad.Fourth,teaching environment factors have a significant impact on international student engagement in China,as well as on the three dimensions of student engagement,which refer to cognitive,behavioral,and emotional engagement.The specific impact is that,compared to having class with Chinese students,the form of the independent class(separated with Chinese students)has a positive influence on student engagement,and academic challenges will also have a positive impact on international student engagement.Under the synergistic effect of teaching form and academic challenges,the impact of academic challenges on student engagement is greater than of the teaching form.Fifth,social-relatedness has a significant influence on international student engagement in China,as well as on the three dimensions of student engagement.The specific performance of the effect is that,teacher support,peer relationship and campus management support can have a significant positive impact on international student engagement.And teacher support has the greatest impact.Sixth,the influence of environmental factors on the overall international student engagement is greater than the impact of personal factors.Only on behavioral engagement,the influence of personal factors is stronger than of environmental factors.On the one hand,environmental factors can directly affect the student engagement;on the other hand,they will affect student engagement by influencing personal factors and changing students' learning motivation.
