Language and culture are mutually influential, which means language teaching should be combined with culture teaching, to improve students’ learning efficiency. The government has also made it clear that through the culture of English-speaking countries English teaching should cultivate students’"cultural awareness", improve their sensitivity to the English culture, and enhance their consciousness and ability of cross-cultural communication, which clarifies the necessity of teaching culture in the English classroom in senior high school. Besides, an increasing number of teachers in senior high school introduce cultural knowledge in classroom teaching, increase the proportion of culture teaching, and try using different teaching methods. But overall, compared with English teaching in university, the current teaching practice in high school hasn’t given enough attention to culture teaching, let alone effective teaching methods, which seriously influences the teaching effect in middle school.Case teaching method refers to the teaching method where teachers use a situation or a story to inspire students to participate in various discussions and actively analyse and solve problems. The domestic and international research on the case teaching method has emerged in an endless stream, and the method has been widely used in various industries, especially education. However, the research on the method in most cases are focused on higher education, while its application in high school English teaching is seldom involved, not to mention its application in culture teaching in senior high school. Based on the investigation of the case teaching method, this research discusses about the effects of case teaching method on English culture teaching in high school, and tries to construct the teaching mode of applying case teaching method to culture teaching in high school.Mainly based on literature analysis and practical application, this study discusses the elements and methods of culture teaching in Senior English teaching. By extracting some cultural information in textbooks in Jiangsu Province, the thesis continues with concrete implementating methods of case teaching, and tries to offer suggestions on the teaching mode of applying case teaching to culture teaching in senior English, followed by a general mode. The research also reflects on possible problems with the implementation of culture teaching in senior English course using case teaching method. The conclusion of this thesis is that applying the case teaching method to culture teaching in senior English is of theoretical and practical significance. The application can improve students’ learning efficiency, help improve the systematization of culture teaching in senior high school, and help cultivate students’ awareness of cross-cultural communication to make students adapt to the social development in the new era.
