Primary school stage is of great importance in one’s life, for it’s an importantperiod to master basic knowledge and basic skills to lay the foundation for children’sfuture. Primary school students, especially in grades of3to5, are curious about thethings around, and they also have the desire for autonomous learning; meanwhile,children at this stage have a certain foundation, they can, under the guidance ofteachers, master self-learning approach well, so it is the best time to cultivateself-learning ability.Based on the investigation method, this study has taken several primary schoolsof Kunming as examples to research on present situation investigation of mathematicself-learning; these schools are Lianhua primary school, Longxiang Primary School,Kim Kang Park Primary School, Wenlin Primary School, Zhang Feng campuses ofDayu central primary school and Wu Cheng Primary. The main contents of theinvestigation is the confusion of elementary school teachers and students inmathematics teaching and learning together with their attitude towards self-learning;in addition, the survey conducted classroom observations, combined with typicalcases to analyze math teaching and discussed the teaching strategies of improvingstudents’ autonomous learning ability and some teaching suggestions were alsomade.The results have shown that self-learning ability of students’ in Kunming is notideal, especially the autonomy before and after class. Accordingly, two mainconclusions were made: Firstly, because of the lower level of development of self-consciousness,9to11-year-old pupils are lack of self-control ability, so they are easilyaffected by others, especially when they face some difficult math activities or tasks,they tend to give up their activities. Secondly, the learning strategies of elementarystudents in Kunming are significantly single. Although they are already aware ofsome of the learning strategies in the actual mathematics learning, they did not truly grasp them.Accordingly, the paper come up with the following suggestion on teacher’steaching: to enhance students ’ intrinsic motivation; using independent learningtheory to guide their daily teaching;to teach students some specific strategies;toenhance students’ self-monitoring ability cultivation. The study also showed thatautonomous learning will be glorious under the in-depth study of teachers andstudents’ actively practice and self-learning will make the classroom teaching full ofrejuvenated vitality, become the realization of teachers’ and students’ life andwell-being of the growth stage.
