United States social studies is an integrated Humanities and social science course which is based on the history of primary and secondary schools. United States largest organization concerned about social studies education-the American Social Science Association clearly states that the social studies is an integrated social sciences and Humanities discipline which is designed to enhance citizenship capacity. Curriculum Standards is the basic programmatic document of national curriculum. It reflects the basic national curriculum standards and quality requirements.National Council for the Social Studies(NCSS) first published national curriculum standards in 1994. Since then, the social studies standards have been widely and successfully used as a framework for teachers, schools, districts,states, and other nations as a tool for curriculum alignment and development.However, after more than 10 years of educational practice, combined with the global context and a change in educational practice, the American Social science Association may think, published in 1994, the social studies curriculum standard need to be revised. Published in 2010, the revised version is designed to provide a framework for social studies teaching, learning and assessment. Compared with1994’s social studies curriculum standards, 2010 edition of curriculum standard of holistic require stronger, its structure is more complete. To target progressive requirements more clearly, it emphasizes its operability. The validity requirements highlighted in the Appendix, emphasis on civic education strengthen the training of ability.This paper consists of an introduction, a body and a summary form.Introduction mainly explained the background, the purpose and significance of the research. Besides, it includes domestic major research, essay writing researchmethods, content and the innovation place and so on. Body part including 3 parts,the first part introduces United States social section of development evolution in order to the section below analysis and research the courses standard’s background and meaning better. The second part introduces the overall structure and main content of 2010 version courses standard in order to analysis the courses standard’s features more objectively. The third part analyzes the curriculum standards’ characteristics and its enlightenment to our country. Full text of the summary is the high-level discussion on the main content.Through detailed description of 2010 edition United States standards, this paper pointed out that it has four characters.Firstly, the new edition emphasizes the integrated Humanities and social science and it has adapted to the development trend of the world’s primary and secondary school curricula. Secondly, the standards have integrated structure: it has paid attention to comprehensive, logic and rationality. Thirdly, the progressive curriculum goals are reasonable, with a strong operational. Finally, emphasis on civic education, it reflects the social studies directed towards basic education courses.When we research the 2010 edition’s curriculum standards, we must adhere to the basic viewpoint of materialism. We have to proceed from the facts of the elementary education in China and find out historical and national differences between two countries. Their educational objectives and educational concept are different. We must understand that China’s history and social studies curriculum standards can not be perfect in a short period. Although the United States has a very good reference for China national curriculum, but because of the differences between their on different national conditions, we can not blindly learn from United States educational experience. We have to adhere to the essence of our country, and constantly improve our related curriculum standards.
