Research On Sex Education Curriculum Standards And The General Edition Junior Middle School Textbooks "Health&Wellness"(the Part Of Sex Education) In The United States

Sex education has developed slowly in our country in the past time. But with the earlier arrival of adolescent development age and the increasing degree of the social openness, the slow developmental has contrasted to the urgent demand to sex education. In2008, the Ministry of Education issued the "Guidelines for Health Education in Middle and Primary Schools" which could be viewed as the prototype of sex education curriculum standard in our country. New policy will lead the new development of sex education. The research on sex education textbooks will become the core of the sex education. Making a comprehensive survey on sex education books, we found that most of them were treated as reading materials and were used in a handful of provinces and district but the situation is not optimistic. The study found that the United States has formed a more complete sex education system. This study focuses on the sex education curriculum standards and the general edition junior middle school textbooks "health&wellness" in the United States. This study will provide new research results and reference for preparation of future sex education curriculum, such as standards and textbooks.By using literature study, this study first investigated the history and status of sex education among adolescents in American. Then "National Health Education Standards","Guidelines of Comprehensive Sexuality Education" and "National Guidelines for Sexuality and Character Education" were analyzed by using content analysis. On the basis of above research, we analysised the sex education part in "Health&Wellness".The results show that different curriculum standard has its own features,for example,"National Health Education Standards" is logical and pay attention to skills,"Guidelines of Comprehensive Sexuality Education" is detailed in content,and "National Guidelines for Sexuality and Character Education" is rich in persuasive cases. The modules of "Health&Wellness" are characterized by diversification and specialization. In additon, each module cooperates well with others. The content is broad,but lack of contraceptive methods. The guiding ideology of the textbook is "abstinence education". The depth of content is general identical with "National Health Education Standards" despite some differences. The content accords with students' cognitive development.According to the results of this research, we give some suggestions to sex education, sex education curriculum standards and textbooks combining with China's actual situation.
