David Harvey is a famous contemporary Western Marxism geographer and a master of space criticism theory. He regards Marxism as element theory. Based on this, he has formed his own unique insights about urbanization, spatial justice, globalization, post-modernism, neo-liberalism, neo-imperialism and so on."Space" is an important entry point and the focus of Harvey’s theory. And, in he’s theoretical perspective, "space" often refers to urban space. Attention to urban space, it doesn’t mean Harvey ignored for the time dimension. In his view, time and space are inseparable. The discussion of space is inseparable from the concern about time. He proposed the dialectical relationship between time and space, and regarded it as the dialectic premise of his urban studies. Why capitalism cities can maintain long-term development, but appear urban crisis from time to time, based on the understanding of the dialectical relationship between time and space, Harvey keen insight into the underlying causes. It was the urban spatial-temporal fixes. He pointed out that the mode of capitalism production inevitably induced crisis of excessive accumulation, but the implementation of the spatial-temporal fixes makes urban space become an important carrier to digest and absorb the excessive capital. However, the spatial-temporal fixes still have its limitations and drawbacks. It can’t avoid the finally outbreak of economic crisis, but also cause the deletion of urban spatial justice. For this reason, he explored alternatives for urban development from the ideal dimension of utopian ideal and the realistic dimensions of social resistance.Harvey’s critique to urban spatial-temporal fixes in capitalist countries is penetrating and provoking. His studies provides a new idea for us to uphold and develop Marxism, provides a new perspective for us to understand the development road and the internal relations of contemporary capitalist, and provides a useful inspiration for promoting urban spatial justice in contemporary. This thesis interpret Harvey’s criticism to urban spatial-temporal fixes in the following aspects.
