| Dragon boat race has a long history in many minorities in Yunnan, and featured with highly ethnic and regional characters. Dragon boat races of Dai and Bai people are the best organized races than others, and have better ethnic character. Dai people’s dragon boats played a significant role in Songkran Festival, and Bai people’s dragon boats are also important to their Torch Festival and the Festival of playing in the sea. Dragon boat race also as a game system to carry out, such as the Chinese Dragon Boat Race, the National Minority Traditional Sports Meeting. Many researches about the dragon boat race are only focus on the racing, but the boat contains a profound ethnic culture, and reflect the national cultural heritage. Therefore, by studying the dragon boat culture, we can get a overall understanding of the Dai and Bai people’s ethnic culture. Meanwhile the process of dragon boat making also implies the ethnic culture. Now dragon boat making culture has not drew wide attention yet, and people still don’t know the culture in the process of dragon boat making.In this paper, I’ll use many methods to do my research, such as literature resources, fieldwork, comparative analysis and logical reasoning. And use multi-disciplinary knowledge including ethnology, cultural studies, anthropology, physical science, history, sociology and philosophy. From the cultural perspective, I researched the natural environment where the Dai and Bai people lived, the origin of the dragon boat race, the production process of dragon boat, as well as it’s making cultural. I find that there is a strong relationship between the Dai and Bai people’s dragon boat making culture and their local natural environment, religion, politics and economics. The production culture also implies a profound ethnic culture, reflecting different ethnic characteristics, and carrying the ethnic cultural heritage. I also analyzed the plight of the dragon boat production, protection, inheritance the people faced, and proposed to strengthen the cultural consciousness, which means increase the Dai and Bai people’s awareness and the government’s responsibility about the protection and inheritance of dragon boat making cultural. Rescue the existing dragon boat making cultural, organize people to learn and inherit the dragon boat making skills. Strengthen propaganda, establish different dissemination channels and network communication platform in society. Promote the protection and spread of dragon boat making culture.This paper will give a theoretical reference on enriching and improving the traditional sports culture of the Dai people in Xishuangbanna,and the Bai people in Dali. Promote the minority traditional culture, help to create a muti-culture which based on the dragon boat culture. And promote the construction of traditional sports system of Yunnan minorities. |
