As the development of the technology and culture in our society, we present more andmore demands for Education. Under this background, we need make new breakthroughs ingeography education to satisfy society’s demands. Developing the students’ spatial perceptionand thinking ability is a kind of these new breakthroughs and teachers need know how tocomplete this task.Based on the related papers, research achievement and the knowledge about geography,psychology and educational psychology, this paper completes these4kinds of work: Firstly, itgives the basic concept and theory of spatial perception and thinking ability. Secondly, itdivides the distribution pattern of elements in space into different kinds based on thecharacteristics of the elements. These characteristics contain3kinds, the arrange shape, thegeometric feature and the links of the elements. Thirdly, with several examples it shows how todevelop the students’ spatial perception and thinking ability in the class. Fourthly, it makesteaching design by analyzing the elements in the district, the spatial distribution pattern whichformed by the elements and the relationship of the elements.The value of this research concentrate on these two points: Helping the teacher completebetter comprehension about the geographical distribution of areas which shows in the textbook;Showing the students’ psychological laws of learning these knowledge and greatly promotingthe teaching effective.Complete the teaching goal, make the student’s ability of space getcontinuously development.
