Yu Zaichun(1909~1993)is a modern Chinese language educator. He acts as a Chinese faculty for a long time and is devoted to Chinese language teaching and research in his life. He has great achievements but the research on him is few. This thesis insists on the position and point of view of historical materialism and dialectical materialism. It takes Yu Zaichun’s Chinese education thoughts as the research object with literature method, history method, comparative method and case analysis method, aiming to clarify Yu Zaichun’s Chinese education thoughts comprehensively and systematically and explore its practical significance combined with the current teaching practice. It also aims to evaluate Yu Zaichun’s Chinese education thoughts objectively and clear about its outstanding contribution and limitations on historical point of view and establish Yu Zaichun’s position in the history of Chinese language education so that make up for the inadequacy of previous studies.Yu Zaichun’s Chinese education thoughts come from his reflection on traditional Chinese education, investigation for Chinese education present situation and exploration of Chinese education reform.Profound traditional Chinese education is the foundation of his thoughts. New ideological trend of literature and education inspires his exploration and innovation. The spirit of tireless is the motivation and guarantee for his Chinese education research in his life.Yu Zaichun’s Chinese education thoughts mainly include student view, course view, teaching material view and teaching view. The student view is based on students and reflects the concept of people-oriented. The course view clears about the instrumental characteristic of Chinese curriculum and grasps the nature of language training. The teaching material view emphasizes the selection of form and advocates compiling textbooks independently. The teaching view attaches importance to word teaching, strengthens the translation of classical Chinese and builds teaching mode of writing.Yu Zaichun’s Chinese education thoughts provide contemporary enlightenment for relationship between teachers and students, curriculum reform, teaching material compilation and Chinese teaching. Students should be respected and understood and democratic dialogue is advocated. Curriculum reform should stick to the nature of Chinese curriculum and attach great importance to double-base training. The quality of articles in textbooks should be improved and textbooks can be flexibly compiled. Chinese teachers should strengthen the standardization of Chinese characters, arouse students’ interest in reading and update concept and method of writing teaching.Yu Zaichun has five creative contributions:Firstly, he advocates "technology first" and highlights the instrumental characteristic of Chinese curriculum. Secondly, he practices "collective writing" and constructs new writing teaching mode. Thirdly, he is proficient in "modern translation of ancient prose" and promotes the inheritance and development of classical literature. Fourthly, he stresses word teaching and contacts language research with Chinese teaching. Fifthly, he has founded the magazine writing and reading to promote the reform of Chinese teaching in the society. Although Yu Zaichun’s thought is of historical limitations inevitably, but his contributions can’t be denied in modern Chinese education history. Critically inheriting Yu Zaichun’s Chinese education thoughts can enlighten the present education of Chinese language and is also the most sincere commemoration of Yu Zaichun.
