The thesis is a case study on Xia Mianzun'thought. Xia Mianzun is a famous Chinese educationist in the history of modern Chinese language education in China. About Xiamianzun, the author has collected a great deal of material which has been contrasted, analyzed, induced and synthesized by using case-study ,the documentary evidence and the historical method , aming to judge Xia's educational theory and thought in the historical perpetual flow . Moreover, the author sets up the frame of Xia's language eduational theory from philosophical level and teaching level, by which it is advantageous for the people to grasp Xia' language education thought, to see the vitality of it ,and to bring honor to Mr. Xia's education thought in the new century language education and to promote the current language education reform at the same time.At the onset of the thesis, the author introduces Xia's practical experience in education: the course of learning, teaching, editing and doing reaserch. Xia's teaching practice and experience were the foundation and source of his language educational theory . In this thesis, the author judges his teaching idea in education practice in the context of social history development and concludes some teaching ideas about the emotion education,the personality education , the existengce education and the self-taught education and also explained the background, the connotation, the value and so on of those ideasAfter that ,the author analyzes and induces Xia's language teaching view including Chinese language education goal view, Chinese language teaching material view , reading teaching view and writing teaching view,all of which are underlying his language educational phyilosophical thought. His Chinese language education goal view: To study Chinese "focuses on the literal form", focuses on raising the reading and writing ability and "to foster abilities by utilizing the teaching materials". His theory about Chinese language teaching materials is to set up a set of Chinese language teaching materials which are not only scientific and systematic but also able to combine reading with writing closely to boost the abilities of comprehesion and expression. His reading teaching view: what to read and how to read---the three-stage thought of reading, the relations between the language feeling and the understanding, the relationship between appreciation and imagination and what reading goal to achieve. Writing teaching view:what to write , the read-write relations, how to write---the relationship between being a man and doing the writing, the standard, the cut-point and the writing techniques, by which the expression ability will be formed.The aim of the thesis is to try to draw the correct conclusion through realistical analysis so as to meet the realistical needs and the critic absorption and to inject new blood into Xia's thought and to serve the Chinese language education.
