As the wave of informatization is affecting all areas of our society, including the way of learning, working and living, information literacy based on the computer application ability has become the basic quality of modern citizens. Therefore, the course of "Computer Application Basic" is listed as a national planning compulsory course for secondary vocational school students. Under the impetus of the new round curriculum reform focusing on student, ability and action orientation, a textbook development upsurge is set up. However, when these textbooks are put into practice, there is a puzzle:the idea of student-oriented, ability-oriented and action-oriented looks beautiful, but the "high mark and low ability" phenomenon still exists. How to make full use of the textbooks and realize "teaching with textbooks" other than "teaching textbooks" so as to improve student’s computer application ability and information literacy needed for their future occupation? This is a realistic problem that teachers on front are facing. Meanwhile, with the rise of constructivism theory, the theory of situational teaching is attracting more and more attention. This paper discussed how to redesign the teaching material under the direction of situational teaching theory and the textbook for improving the students’ computer application ability. Selecting the cooking specialty students as experiment unit, and comprehensively adopting the research methods as literature study, questionnaire, interview, action research, classroom observation, case analysis, and so on, the author mainly explored three problems:the source selection and content organization of professional situation materials, the presentation method of professional situation materials and the importing occasion of professional situation materials. Through nearly two years of teaching practice and improvement, it was founded that using the situational teaching method in the course of computer application basic can stimulate students’ learning interest, mobilize students’active participation in the class, enhance students’ self-confidence, raise more students’concern and love for the specialty, and help to better reach the course objectives and training objectives of the secondary vocational school. Furthermore, we have some discovery from the teaching practice. Although the profession-related teaching materials can effectively arouse students’interest in learning, students are more like their own materials (such as the works made by themselves, the data searched or accumulated by their own). Multimedia and interactive materials are more attractive for the students. Importing the professional situation materials in whole process and in different way can make students more integrated into the professional situation, combine the skill practice and professional situation task as a whole, and ultimately achieve the aim of improving the professional ability of computer application.
