Since 1980s, the urban modernization progress of our country has been accelerated constantly. The rural surplus labor force started to massively transfer to cities. Thus, a new vulnerable group is formed---left-behind children in rural areas. This thesis focuses on the reading habit and reading environment of left-behind children. The object of study is selected from Liuan City in Anhui Province which is a large central city of agriculture where there are numerous migrant workers. There are over seven million people in total in the city and the number of migrant workers is as many as over 1.8 million people. The local government has started the special work about the left-behind children long before, which provides this thesis with relatively abundant objects and high platform. The influences on reading habit by reading environment of rural left-behind children in the stage of compulsory education in Liuan City are studied as the key points. Countermeasures are discussed by investigation and the learning of the current situation.This thesis is divided into four parts in total:The first part:Introduction. The reason for the selection of the topic of this thesis is introduced. The nouns in the thesis are defined. Research overview of relevant research findings about reading habit and reading environment of left-behind children in China is conducted. The purpose and meaning of research in this thesis are exposited.The second part:The research process. The research objects are determined and questionnaires are designed. The initial dimension of the questionnaires is listed. The final questionnaires are developed through repeated modification and testing for left-behind children is implemented. The outline of interview is designed. The interview is launched for rural front-line teachers and left-behind children in the stage of compulsory education according to the outline of interview. The third part:The analysis and description of current status of the result of questionnaires are conducted. The influences on reading habit by reading environment of left-behind children are embodied from the three perspectives of family, school and society.The fourth part:Aiming at the current situation of reading environment and reading habit of left-children in Liuan City, discussion and study are conducted, including:building reading environment which is suitable for left-behind children, taking large social environment and small family environment as the entry points; optimizing the education idea and cognition of reading of the parents of the left-behind children; the society and government should expend investment to provide excellent books for the reading of left-behind children, etc.
