Left-behind Children in rural areas has been a special social group nowadays in China.It is a hot issue in our society.It is also a major obstacle to achieve educational balance and fairness in rural areas.As for the left-behind children of junior middle school age,they are in the crucial developmental stage,but with such a special growing environment,all the challenges including but not limited to physical security,development of moral senses,academic performances finally result in the development of healthy personality.Reading capacity,as an important part of Chinese education,plays an essential role in cultivating one's personality.The author,a Chinese teacher,tries to tackle the challenges of the reading education in left-behind children of middle school age in rural areas by working on the reading levels of left-behind children of middle school students in Yicheng County,Zaozhuang City through the means of social survey.Hopefully this research and study can explore the school-based reading education in accordance with the local education reality to find a systematic solution to support the reading education for children of this special group.The study covers the following areas of the present status and solution research of reading education of left-behind children of middle school age:The First part clarifies the reasons behind this research.The research was initiated by the current social status,the requirements of Chinese curriculum,as well as the author her own teaching practice.The research is focusing on how to arouse the interest in reading,how to cultivate a good reading habit,to increase the quantity of reading,to improve the reading capacity as well as how to promote a better reading taste.Then the author has looked through the research files domestically and abroad to form a picture of the relevant research.Being inspired by these research,the direction,the focus and the methods of this research has become clear.The Second Part is the survey of the current status of the reading education of rural left-behind children of middle school age in Yicheng County.The survey is based on the objectives of Chinese Curriculum,focusing on eight aspects of the reading levels like thereading environment,reading habits,means,aims,individual preference etc.By analyzing the survey result,the author tries to find the problems of their reading education and the causes of these problems.The Third Part is the statistical analysis of the survey result trying to figure out the current situation of these children's reading habits,means,aims,personal preference,communication etc.and trying to identify the challenges and problems they are facing and the potential causes.The Fourth Part is trying to find the specific feasible solutions and proper reading guidance to deal with the challenges and problems identified above.The Fifth Part is conclusion to summarize the research findings and solutions,and to reflect on the research itself hoping to set up a solid base for future further study.
