Since China’s Reform and Opening Up, Earth-shaking Changes have taken place in Basic Education in our country. With the development of the National Basic Education Course Reform and "Ordinary High School Geography Curriculum Standard" issued and implemented, the change of the high school geography teaching material is obvious. Teachers and students also rely on teaching material. Teaching material is one of the key to success in teaching. Teaching material is the embodiment of curriculum standard and the main tool of teachers and students in teaching activities. The analysis of the Geography New Curriculum Teaching Material, can let many characteristics of the new teaching material. Geography teachers have a deep understanding and using new materials to provide the beneficial reference for them. Based on Cognitive Learning Theory, this paper analyses the characteristics of the new teaching material changes. New teaching material used questionnaire investigation, in order to provide opinions and suggestions.The main contents of this article have the following several parts:The first part is the introduction. This article research mainly introduced background and significance. This paper summarizes the current research status at home and abroad, analysis and research results and the existing problems. This article research points out that the characteristic and innovation of the article. Research ideas and methods are put forward.The second part for the study is definition and theoretical basis. Definition is clear. Study mainly introduces in the theoretical basis of cognitive learning theory and the representative figure of the thought, including the Piaget’s theory of cognitive structure, Vygotskys’ s cognitive development theory, Bruner’s cognitive discovery theory and Ausubel’s cognitive assimilation theory. Second, in the theoretical basis of also simply introduces the geography theory and system theory.The third part is based on cognitive learning theory, by comparing the old and new natural geography teaching material, analysis the characteristics of the new teaching material changes. The main characteristics are the following. The new teaching materials pay more attention to the building of the students’ cognitive structure, pay attention to students in the learning activity subject value and pay attention to find learning opportunities for student to promote inquiry-based learning. The teaching material content is helpful to stimulate students’ interest in learning.The fourth part is based on cognitive learning theory. New teaching material are required an investigation. Through the questionnaire, we understand the use status of new teaching material. We also analysis the problems of existing in the new teaching material in the using process.The fifth part is the cognitive learning theory for the future of geography textbook compilation. Mainly include paying attention to the geography experiment, and guiding the student to explore; developing the content of teaching material; increasing the teaching case and drawing lessons from foreign experience of writing case; adjusting the content layout and optimizing the structure of teaching materials.The sixth is divided into conclusion. Sum up the main points and conclusions of this study. The paper points out the future related research.
