UNESCO education put forward by the international committee of the report "learn to survive" in "the future of the school must take the object of the education become the main body of education itself", "today we focus on education and learning in the process of" self-study "in principle". This shows, the focus of the current education is teaching students how to construct knowledge independently, acquire skills, improve the ability to solve the problem. The textbook as the carrier of classroom teaching activities, is not only the material of that teachers "teaching" but also the material of teachers to help students "self-study". Can the used geography textbook embody the idea of "high quality of teaching and learning materials",can the textbook column exist problems, can the textbook help students to construct knowledge actively, will be one of the problems it faced.This paper takes the third article of Shanghai high school geography teaching material “atmosphere and weather, climate” as the research. Mainly using questionnaire survey to analysis and summarize the problem of textbook columns from the perspective of “learning materials” and then putting forward the strategies of the textbook’s writing.By checking and organizing the literature,we can define the concept of geography textbook and geography learning materials.Then comparing two concepts and explaining theoretical basis of these two concepts.Through the questionnaire for teachers and students, the author can find out the disadvantages of the textbook’s column in the third article and their suggestions to the textbook’s content.At the same time, combining with the analysis of the textbook’s column, The author finds that the schematic diagram and the map in this textbook can reflect the concept of “learning materials”, as well as the “column”, “thinking and practice”, “research and discussion” and so on. And they can help students to grasp special knowledge, training ability and Stimulate thinking.The characters and landscape picture,can not reflect the concept of “learning material” very well. They can help students to master knowledge. But they are deficient in the aspect of stimulating thinking and cultivating ability.Finally, based on the characteristic of geography “learning material” by literature researching and questionnaire survey,the author put forward the strategy of the textbook’s improvement from the angle of “learning materials”:(1) increasing interest to stimulate exploring desire;(2) creating performance opportunities to reflects the thinking process;(3) paying attention to the area and application to reflect discipline charm;(4) creating knowledge framework to improve the capacity of induction.
