When a sport event assembles the media resources all over the world, stimulates millions of people to pay attention to and all kinds of capital to put into, the sport event will come up to a spectacle. Beginning from Douglas Kellner’s theory of media spectacle, this article puts forward the concept of Sport Event Spectacle. Then combining some related theories from journalism, sociology and science of sports, this article studies the major problems of sport event spectacle, such as its evolving route, forming mechanism, communicating procession, culture attributes and inner-contradictions.The chapter one retrospects the evolving route of sport event spectacle from the combination of sports and media technologies, then analyzes the reason why sport event spectacle comes out. It insists that sport event spectacle is born of the coaction of media organization, sports industry and commercial power.The second chapter focuses on the communicating characteristics of sport event spectacle and the communicating roles within it from the perspective of communication. In the circumstance of all-media, media draws a panoramic picture of sport event spectacle while the audiences can interact and resonate. So media is the maker of sport event spectacle, but the audiences take part in the making process widely.The chapter three observes the sport event spectacle from a field vision of media culture, pointing out that sport event spectacle stimulates the culture procreation and promotes the communication of cross-culture. Entertaining and politicized are two highlighted tendencies when media makes sport event spectacle, however, undue entertainment in sports report and the hype of racial and sexual issues are harmful to the healthy development of sports.In the last chapter, the inner-contradictions of sport event spectacle are analyzed. While sport developed itself through the spectacle, it also had to compromise with the media; while the media get the opportunity of professionalism and internationalization they also face the risk which their behaviors out of rules could be enlarged; while audiences get to know more about sports with the help of sport event spectacle, they just satisfy with the virtual experience.
